GERMANY, 1959

Martin Assig has started working on his St. Paul series in 2009. The name of the series refers to Paul Klee, not directly but in the variety of styles and idioms he uses in his work. With the St. Paul series Martin Assig has created a container in which he has the liberty to refer to his own work, quote other artists and express himself in a free, often playful way. In general the series is about what it means to be human, addressing existential themes like love, death, loneliness and our relations to others and the world.
