VENEZUELA, 1926-2018

Mateo Manaure is one of the most important Venezuelan artists of XX century. In 1950, during a journey in Paris, he founds with A. Otero and others, the magazine “Los Disidentes”, a Manifesto that promotes and asserts the most radical art of that time, the geometric abstractionism. Back in Caracas in 1952, he organizes with C. Bogen the first Abstract Art exhibition in Venezuela. With an art urbanisation process leaded by the great architect Carlos Villanueva, he realize within Calder, Vasarely, Carreño, Navarro and others, the famous murals at the Central University of Venezuela, were the abstract-geometric art join the tradition of the South American murals.
