Mateo Pizarro is a Colombian artist who lives and works in Mexico. He has a fascination for images that are ambiguous, contradictory, and have the beauty that emanates from incomplete drawing.
Bestiary of Non-existent Animals is a series of fascinating drawings based on descriptions found in medieval bestiaries and tales of the end of the world, both from different cultures. Searches for passages describing the animals in peculiar ways are conducted in a wide range of books and the names of the animals are excluded so that the drawings are based only on written accounts.
The drawings show a refined technique in the use of graphite, especially considering that it is mostly miniatures, with a remarkable level of detail.
