GEORGIA, 1980

Tamar Botchorishvili studied monumental painting at the Tbilisi State Academy of the Fine Arts (1995-99) and then continued her education at the Leipzig Academy of the Fine Arts, faculty of media art. Her art is always on the verge between the real and the absurd, thebeautiful and the horrible. These mutually exclusive existences can be considered Tamar’s signature style. She is interested in fragmentation and works mainly in collage and assemblage, be it small polymer clay objects or watercolour drawings. Objects that are at the same time grotesque and humorous often deal with rather sensitive issues, related to identity, sexuality and oppression in the patriarchal society, death and subconscious triggers. Tamar is widely exhibited in Georgia and abroad.
